Following is the lineage of Kit Number 108582 from the oldest proven ancestor. Due to concerns for identity theft living persons are not included or are so noted by initials and obscured dates of birth and death, etc

GGrandfather Samuel Barnett (1815-?) Wife Matilda (1825-?) 12 children, Emmaline-1842, Morris-1843, Elizabeth-1844, Foster-1851, Jane-1853, (my grandfather, Powell B. Barnett-1854, MaryJane-1857, Samuel-1858, Woodson-1859, Cornelius-1862, Nancy-1864, and Julia-1868.

 

They were slaves on the Point of Fork plantation until being freed by the Emancipation Proclamation. The slaveowner’s name was James Galt. The plantation was located in Fork Union Township in Fluvanna County, Virginia.

 

Grandfather Powell B. Barnett. 1854-1939. Wife, Mary Sample. Married 8/14/1880. 3 Children, (my father, Powell S. Barnett) (1883-1971), Benjamin, (1885-?), William, (1887-?) Benjamin never married. William had several children including Stancholl, Howard, Neal, and Adeline all of whom are deceased.

 

Grandfather Powell was born on the Point of Fork plantation in Fork Union Township, Fluvanna County in Virginia.

 

The slave-owners name was James Galt. Upon being freed as a slave, He worked as a coal miner in Braidwood, Ogle County, Illinois, and Brazil, Clay County, Indiana.

 

He married the former Mary Sample on 8/14/1880. He, along with hundreds of others was recruited to work in the coal mines of Roslyn, Kittitas County Washington, arriving in 1888 where he lived until his death in 1939. His wife, Mary died shortly after their arrival in Washington State.

 

My father Powell S. Barnett 1883-1971 Spouse Katherine Conna (1890-1971) Married 1906. 8 Children: Powell 1907-1979,Carmen 1912-1984, Eugene 1916-1980, John 1919-?) Kenneth 1924-?) D……still living, H……-still living, D….. Q…..still living. All of the children were born in Seattle, King County. Washington.
